Weather was beautiful.
At the spillway into the feather river we fished for steelhead.
Our gear was spin rods using night crawlers for bait. We had spoiled up our reels with 6 lb Pline.
Using a sliding barrel sinker 1/4 oz and a bead to protect the knot to the barrel swivel. Using 4lb test leader material approximately 16 inches to the number 2 mosquito hook. We threaded the half night crawler onto the hook.
We were wet fishing in waders casting into the leading edge of the white water coming from the spillway. Casting right into the seam in the current. Tighten the line and keep taught waiting for the strike.
unfortunately we did not land any steelhead today but pretty sure we both had more than one on at different times.
Unfortunately salmon season is closed, I say that because myself and my comrade both probably hooked into 25-30 salmon each. I changed from bait to glow bugs and still continue hooking up with the salmon thinking at some point we will get to some steelhead. Never happened. We’ll still a great day of fishing just no luck with our targeted fish.
